Our Business, Our Family, Our Story
Trillium Hill Farm is located on James' family's land, in the center of Hinesburg. James spent many hours as a child on the farm exploring its woods, running on its trails, sledding on its hills, and helping his family sugar in the spring. The land is currently owned by his mother and uncles, but has been passed down through the family for at least six generations. In 2006, James started a market garden on the land. In that first year James had one CSA member and sold vegetables at the Hinesburg Farmers' Market. While prepping the ground for his first season, James attended the Northeast Organic Farming Conference at Vermont Technical College. He "made eyes" at Sara who also happened to be there as a UVM student studying agriculture in her senior year. Sara came to an interest in farming similarly to James- spending lots of time on her grandparents' farm in the Northeast Kingdom, and then working on farms throughout Vermont and Europe in college. Since 2006, we have grown our farm significantly and gone through several big changes. We've milked dairy goats and raised chickens for eggs, but have now landed with a focus on growing vegetables for our community through a farmstand and CSA, and wholesaling vegetables to restaurants and stores. We also raise grass-fed beef which are slowly improving our land and sequestering carbon. We've also grown a family- Ruby was born in 2011. She especially enjoys the animals on the farm and participating in most farm work- the past few years she has grown peas and cherry tomatoes, but loves sugaring with the entire family best. . We feel lucky and grateful to raise our daughter and live in a community that supports us and the work that we do. We invite your ideas and input, and encourage you to come take a walk on our beautiful farm. |
